Derek Jeter

To many Derek Jeter is either a player that they think is just awful, or a one of their favorite players. I personally think that Derek Jeter is one of the best players in the MLB. He is the all-time best Yankees hit leader, passing Hall of Fame member Lou Gehrig in 2009. Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey in 1974. His father, Dr. Sanderson Charles Jeter, a substance abuse counselor, is African American; his mother, Dorothy, is white. He went to high school at Kalamazoo Central High School, where he also played basketball. while in high school, Jeter had batting averages of .557 as a sophomore and .508 as a junior. As a senior, he batted .508; had 23 runs batted in, 21 walks, four home runs, and 12 stolen bases (in 12 attempts), and struck out only once. Derek has man awards and highlights in his career.

Although the two teams first encounter came when the Mets swept the Braves in the 1969 National League Championship Series, which led them to their first World Series championship, the first playoff series won by an expansion team , the rivalry became heated in1990s, when division realignment put the Mets and the Braves in the same division, and the Braves became one of the most dominant baseball teams in professional baseball.

History of Football

Football is a very popular sport today. But it all started somewhere. The inventor of football was Walter Camp. In 1879 he instituted the rules from rugby and turned it into an American sport, known as football.

Walter Camp contributed these changes from Rugby and Soccer to American football:

    * One side retained undisputed possession of the ball, until that side gives up the ball as a result of its own violations
    * The line of scrimmage
    * 11 on a team instead of 15
    * created the quarter-back and center positions
    * Forward pass
    * standardized the scoring system, numerical scoring
    * created the safety, interference, penalties, and the neutral zone
    * tackling as low as the knee was permitted - 1888
    * A touchdown increased in value to six points and field goals went down to three points - 1912

Rutgers University and Princeton University were the first college teams to play a game of American football. In 1920 the American professional football association was founded and Jim Thorpe was its first president. The original teams of the NFL were:

    * Akron Pros
    * Buffalo All-Americans
    * Canton Bulldogs
    * Chicago Tigers
    * Cleveland Indians
    * Columbus Panhandles
    * Dayton Triangles
    * Decatur Staleys
    * Detroit Heralds
    * Hammond Pros
    * Muncie Flyers
    * Racine Cardinals
    * Rochester Jeffersons
    * Rock Island Independents

History of Wrestling

Wrestling is a very popular sport today. Its history dates back all the way to the Trojan War in the 12th century B.C. There are many different kinds of it. One is Greco-Roman style. This is where it is forbidden to hold the opponent below the belt, to make trips, and to actively use the legs in the execution of any action. Greco- Roman is the mainly used in the Olympics. Another form of wrestling is called Freestyle. This is where you are allowed to use legs offensively or defensively. This style of wrestling requires the wrestler to have top condition. it involves throwing and pinning the opponent on the mat. This is the style that is used in high schools in the U.S. Another type is called grappling. This is where only the use of submission holds is permitted. Grappling plays an important role in the practice of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and can be used as a self-defense technique. It brings together techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Freestyle Wrestling, Folk American Wrestling, sambo, and judo. Combat grappling is another form of MMA that includes techniques from most existing Martial Arts systems. Combat grappling matches are either won by grappling holds such as joint locks and chokes, or by striking and kicking techniques. It is also used for military and police training as well.
