Wrestling is a very popular sport today. Its history dates back all the way to the Trojan War in the 12th century B.C. There are many different kinds of it. One is Greco-Roman style. This is where it is forbidden to hold the opponent below the belt, to make trips, and to actively use the legs in the execution of any action. Greco- Roman is the mainly used in the Olympics. Another form of wrestling is called Freestyle. This is where you are allowed to use legs offensively or defensively. This style of wrestling requires the wrestler to have top condition. it involves throwing and pinning the opponent on the mat. This is the style that is used in high schools in the U.S. Another type is called grappling. This is where only the use of submission holds is permitted. Grappling plays an important role in the practice of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and can be used as a self-defense technique. It brings together techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Freestyle Wrestling, Folk American Wrestling, sambo, and judo. Combat grappling is another form of MMA that includes techniques from most existing Martial Arts systems. Combat grappling matches are either won by grappling holds such as joint locks and chokes, or by striking and kicking techniques. It is also used for military and police training as well.
I did not know that wrestling dated back all the way to the Trojan War. I always thought it was kind of a weird sport, but I did not know how complex it is. It has so many rules and techniques. It sounds soooooo cool!!! Are you allowed to bite in wrestling??
